Vicente Areces inaugurates “EL MONTICO” Junction with the future industrial and logistic park ZALIA which will enable the connection of the new logistical area and of Gijón harbour with the "y" motorway, for a construction cost of 13,291,056.43 € and for which TECNIA INGENIEROS has provided Technical Assistance to the  WorksSupervision, Health and Safety Coordination and Quality Control.

Reference work corresponds to the remodelling of the current link road for A-8 Motorway, located at the KP 403, very closely to “El Montico” petrol station, which directly leads to the road AS-326 (Tabaza – Tremañes). Projected works is to transform the current semi-junction into a complete one with the construction of two roundabouts located on each side of the motorway, and an underpass below A-8 motorway. Link road gives also access to the road CE-7 and Cogersa road, as well as to the future industrial and logistic park ZALIA. Maintenance of the traffic on A-8 motorway is essential while the construction of the underpass, so this one will be carried out in different phases.

The main features of the works are detailed here:

•    Section: Transversal section type of the main road’s segment joining the two roundabouts is made of two way roads with two 3.50 m lanes in each one, with outer edges of 2.50 m and 1m inner edge. Referring to the roundabouts, inner radius are 42.5 and 30 meters respectively, roadways have two lanes of 5 meters each one, 0.5 meters inner edges and 1 meter outer edges.

•   Road Surface: Section used for the main road, roundabouts and branches consists on 30 cm of bituminous layer and 25 cm of crushed gravel.

•    Esplanade: Section used for main road, roundabouts and branches is formed by 50 cm of selected soil and 30 cm of soil stabilized with cement.

•   Underpass below A-8 motorway: The structure designed to cross A-8 motorway has a total length of 80 meters and total width of 23.50 meters.
•Tabaza River channelling: Projected works have forced the deflection of Tabaza River. For this reason, it is necessary to make a pipe for a total length of 285 meters, including three concrete frame structures of 6x3 meters, with a total length of 135 meters.

•    Walls: There is a retaining wall in the left edge of the CE-7 road replacement. It has a total length of 180 meters and 8 meters high.

•    Earthworks: Approximately 153,000 m3 are dug and 209,000 m3 are refilled.
