In the present Project, promoted by Asturian Government, TECNIA has helped to define a strategy of development for various municipal councils characterized by a high touristic potential: Avilés, Caravia, Carreño, Castrillón, Castropol, Coaña, Colunga, Cudillero, El Franco, Gijón, Gozón, Llanes, Muros del Nalón, Navia, Ribadedeva, Ribadesella, Soto del Barco, Tapia, Valdés, Vegadeao and Villaviciosa.

The guidelines followed in the study were based on a comparison between the national and regional context in terms of:

• Socioeconomic situation

• Current state of the coastal infrastructure

• Future housing predictions

Furthermore, TECNIA analyzed the project sustainability according to coast protection, load capacity and environmental impact.

The first conclusion from the study was the confirmation of the housing estimations for Gijon Council. Next, despite that the rest of councils cannot be strictly considered coastal touristic areas, predicted planning development in terms of spatial type, quality and layout has been found to be similar to the models existing in other communities.

Finally, demand of hydric resources according to the predicted estimations was verified to be enough in terms of resource volume and required infrastructures for regulation and distribution.
